I have a few questions about these devices.
First off, how do you download the ebooks onto the Sony ereader?
Secondly, which one would you reccomend for a dedecated reader who would travel with this ereader, including the beach so we wouldn’t enjoy a glare. Size? Cost?
I would like feedback on the NEWEST models please.
Also, no links to long articles. Please help me choose!

For the Sony Reader, you need to get books through the computer then copy it to the Sony Reader. For the Kindle and the Nook, they come with free wireless so you can download books directly to them.

I’ve compared the three latest models in a previous answer here, guess it’ll help you decide which one to choose:

And it is a myth that the Kindle can only get books from Amazon. Actually the Kindle supports quite a variety of formats as well, including very common open formats like PDF, MS Word, etc. So you can get books from other websites selling books in those formats as well. See "Files Kindle Recognizes" section here on what file format the Kindle can support:

Ok, so let me start by saying I love to read. I’m old fashioned in that I like having the actual book IN my hand. That being said, I got a kindle for my birthday and I fell in love. It’s very easy to use. You can literally download a book in seconds. I can read it in direct sunlight.

I didn’t have a choice in which e-reader I got, but I’m happy with the kindle. I did look in to alternate e-readers after I got my kindle and I have to say the nook is pretty cool. You can read any book that B&N offers for FREE on teh nook as long as you are in one of their stores which I think is pretty cool. BUT, I feel like the kindle technology is better.

So, if you want to wait for the nook to get more up-to-date technology, then I’d say go for it. If you want it now, I’d say get the kindle. Oh and the kindle is now only $189. Can’t beat that with a stick. :o )

I am a huge Amazon fan and I’m sure the Kindle is great, but I went with the nook and I love it. I didn’t consider any Sony devices because I saw them at Best Buy and I just care for them, although I’m sure they are fine devices. If you are traveling internationally, I would go with the Kindle. With the nook, you will have to download your books before you go as you cannot download internationally. However, the nook has many benefits as well.

    1) You can add an SD card for more book storage.
    2) It supports epub so you can shop from many different stores on the internet outside of BN.com (fictionwise, Sony ebook store, kobobooks.com, etc.)
    3) You can checkout ebooks from public libraries. If your library doesn’t support Overdrive, you can pay $15 to get a library card from some major cities.
    4) You can lend or be lent a book for 14 days. There are facebook sites and message board sites where people put up books they are willing to loan. This means FREE reading of many new releases!
    5) Replaceable battery. With the Kindle, you must send the Kindle back and pay to have the battery replaced.
    6) More In Store – Bring your Nook into a Barnes and Noble store and you get free content and sometimes coupons for a free coffee or treat at their coffee shop. You can also read any ebook for FREE for up to one hour per day. There are books that are quick reads that you could finish in a couple of trips while sipping coffee. This also means you can try books/authors/genres that you might not otherwise try due to purchase price. Both nook and Kindle allow you to sample books, but Read In Store is for the entire book.
    7) Free ebook Fridays. Every Friday, BN makes an ebook available for free. (Amazon may or may not do this; I don’t know.) Even if you only like one book per month, that is still 12 FREE books per year.
    8) I just think it looks better than any other ereader out there. It is about as blank a slate as you can get so you can really get lost in your book. I was afraid that the Kindle’s chicklet keys would be a bit distracting.
    9) Barnes and Noble stores have tons of accessories that you can see before you buy. When you pay $30 or more for a case, it is nice to be able to see and touch it first.
    10) BN has been great with regular firmware updates so you can expect the nook to keep getting better!
    11) The people on the nook message boards (especially nookboards.com/forum are wonderful, helpful, and by and large believe that both the Kindle and nook are wonderful devices that any avid reader would be happy to have.
    12) The placement of the forward and back buttons is wonderful for reading one-handed with either hand. Also, I love that you can "swipe" the touch screen (takes a swift movement and a light touch; with a little practice, it becomes second nature) to turn pages. No button clicking noise!
    13) I really like the "feel" of the nook. It feels solid, but light weight. I like the feel of the back cover. It is kind of rubberized. Also, you can change the color of the back cover and personalize the nook to your liking.

You can get the nook for as low as $149 (wi-fi only) or get the $199 wi-fi plus 3g version.

I have wi-fi at home, work, and the bookstores and coffee shops I go to so the wi-fi only was a good deal for me. I have more than enough ebooks loaded to get me through any trips I may take and don’t find it to be a big deal to load up first if I anticipate being out of wi-fi range for any period of time.

    Whatever choice you make, enjoy!!!

Kindle is sure a worth buying. Wireless is a unique feature I will say and that’s make really value for money. 3G wireless and global coverage, I personally travel a lot and really worthy for me. You can have any newspaper at any place and also they are cheaper. The best selling value for the Kindle is convenience for the travel, it’s pretty handy and easy to carry anywhere with you. The other important thing matters to me are speedy for downloading books and reading material. Also it allow around average size of 1500 books and reading material to store, so is a significant amount of storage space to bring with you. In one line I can say “you are carrying your book shelf with you”.
Also one of the other feature of Kindle is it’s E-INK screen technology that don’t glare in any light so no strain to eyes and you can read for hours.

Also you save a lot in compare to the actual books, the books on kindle are really cheaper so I have saved a lot till now. Also there are plenty of books on kindle to choose. Also it has so good features such as Text-To-Speech which is really useful when you get bored or doing some other activity.

I own the Kindle. If you ask me to choose again now, I’ll still go for the Kindle instead of the Nook or Sony Reader, because it has the text-to-speech function which means I can "read" books with my hands and eyes free to do other things. I use this function often when I’m on public transport, doing housework, etc. It is really a cool feature that cannot be missed.

The web browsing function over wireless network on the Kindle (while the Nook only has web browsing over WiFi, i.e. only when you are around WiFi hotspot; the Sony Reader doesn’t even have a web browser) is rather important as well. The free internet (and now it is free international internet) plus the web browser allow me to look for information whenever I’m in need. And right now it is free for both the U.S. and many other countries, it is just incredible when you bring it to trip (note that you cannot get ebooks for the Nook when you’re outside the U.S., but you can get books on the Kindle outside U.S.)

And indeed, the Kindle has more available books, and ebooks are cheaper on the Kindle as well (Barnes and Nobles always count in the one million free books from Google, which can also be read on the Kindle. For Sony, many users complain it is difficult to find books for it).

And I remember I read these reviews when I decided to get my Kindle:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR2DUM7S4XW06QN%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ASIN%3DB00154JDAI%26nodeID%3D%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Fpr%255Fcmt&tag=elec-m-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

    http://www.speedreaderxreview.com/kindle-2-0-vs-sony-reader-prs-700bc-comparison

And below are the millions of free books and full list of bestselling books for the Kindle, that you can check from time to time:

Finally, there may be good offers for the ebook readers from Amazon’s site. I put the links below for you to check from time to time.

    Hope it helps :)

Among the ebook readers, the Amazon Kindle is the best I’ll say. I recommend this article, it mentioned Amazon Kindle, Sony Reader, Barnes and Nobles, and other ebook readers by the end of the review:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR2V54YX2DD18S2%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Frdp%255Fperm&tag=searchresult-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

There are huge selection of free books for the Kindle as well, as you can find here:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/b/?node=2245146011&tag=searchresult-20

Finally, Amazon just released a new Kindle DX with 50% better contrast and further price cut. I put the link below for you to check out yourself.

    Guess it’ll help you decide.

Kindle is definitely an amazing device. Its worth the money. You can put ebooks/notes/audio books on your kindle also Notes and annotations are very easy to make.Very easy to use with the PC and the Mac Kindle is very straight forward there’s no need for additional software required for Kindle. Also supports you can also increase the text size which is again amazing.E-INK screen technology that don’t glare in any light so no strain to eyes and less harmful. There are wide range of books on kindle many are free and other are cheaper at price than the actual books so yes I have saved a lot of money till now.
You dont have to carry now all those heavy actual books, kindle is so light weight which is carrying almost 1500 books within it. Since I travel a lot I really like the 3G Internet you can get the internet wherever you go. Whenever you are tired of reading you can also you Text-To-Speech with auto-page turning feature which is jst so relaxing. If the small size strains your eyes a lot than can also change the text-size. I must say Kindle is a small magic books really I cant live without it.

    Amazon Kindle at amazon $189

It is always the best to read some actual user opinions.

There are some very good actual user opinions here, for someone who has tried the Nook, the Sony Reader, and the Kindle, you should get a much better idea after reading.

    Sony Reader vs Kindle:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FRXW89I2WI0QMK%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Dcm%5Fcr%5Frdp%5Fperm&tag=querystr-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

    Nook vs Kindle:

    http://ptech.allthingsd.com/20091209/nook-e-reader-has-potential-but-needs-work/

One thing I want to mention is that for the lend me function on the Nook, you can lend each of your book once and only once, and only up to 14 days. If you’ve lent a book once to someone, you can no longer lend the book to anyone else thereafter.

    Hope these help you decide.

I have a Sony Reader. I love ebooks. The amazon Kindle is a great device. The only negative is that you have to buy all your books because Amazon locks you in into a proprietary format. The reason I went for the Sony Reader is because their format is open since Sony is an electronic manufacturer, that means you can buy books from any vendor that sales ePub (there are many) but the plus is that you can check out library books from the comfort of your home! With that said, I would buy the Nook or Sony reader. if you decide on the Sony Reader or Simply want to learn more, check out the Sony reader Forum located here: http://sonyreaderboards.com

    I’ll say the Kindle.

I love my Kindle 2 very much. If you’re thinking about getting the Kindle, I’ll say get it and you won’t regret. Right now I’ve read over 10 books with the Kindle, and I really like the idea that I can bring and store all the books with the handy device. Besides, it uses the e-ink technology, it is really clear like reading books; and even I read with the device for long hours, I don’t feel tired. The internet browsing comes handy as well when I want to look for information on some specific area. My only complaint is the white case, right now all the Kindles are in white color… I think it will be cool if I can have a black or deep blue color Kindle ;)

Yes, the Kindle can read PDF well, especially after its recent update:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fhelp%2Fcustomer%2Fdisplay.html%3Fie%3DUTF8%26nodeId%3D200324680%26ref_%3Dhp%5Fnavbox%5Fkspot%5Fksoft&tag=more_info-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Kindle books are cheaper than hard copies. I suggest you to read this review from a top reviewer who is also a book lover, it outlines quite a lot of benefits of the Kindle and also why it is worth especially at the end of the review:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR9J54TZ1541OR%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Frdp%255Fperm&tag=more_info-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

And there are some websites, where you can find more than a million of free books for the Kindle, so that’s why you no longer need to get to library, you can actually own these books:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/b/?node=2245146011&tag=more_info-20

If you need to read PDF with charts and graphics, you may want to go for the Kindle DX (the new Kindle DX Graphite version is now at cheaper price and with better contrast). Read this review and you should be able to decide which one to get:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR23V08M2LNB81I%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ASIN%3DB0015TCML0%26nodeID%3D%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Fpr%255Fcmt&tag=more_info-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

    Hope this helps.
