Amazon trims the size and price of its newest Kindle and adds a bargainWi-Fi-only model
I want to buy an e reader but not a kindle because I read the reviews and they were'nt good? I wanted to buy another e reader that is universal and will work with any website and download any e book on any website(except Amazon cuz only the Kindle works with them.)I also called Sony and u can only download on there website and not any other websites. Is than an E reader that can be used with any website?
Actually, the most popular e readers right now are the Amazon Kindle and Sony Reader. The other e-readers are either much more expensive, or they don’t have good functions as compared to those two ebook readers. They are not popular so I won’t suggest to look for those e readers…
And I don’t think it is a very big problem for ebook sources though… Actually, there are quite a lot of websites selling books in PDF format, and they can be read on both the Kindle and Sony Reader. And between the two devices, Amazon provide much better content support. There are some very good reviews here about this:
I own the Kindle 2 and I like it very much. And I do think it is a good chance to get it if you want one, as Amazon has recently slashed its price and it is now selling $60 cheaper than the price I got my Kindle.
I’ve to say that the Amazon Kindle is still the best in the market. Actually you can buy a lot of books in PDF format, or just convert them in PDF format, and you’ll be able to read them in most ebook readers (including Kindle and Sony Reader). On the other hand, Amazon protect their own interest and books bought from Amazon Kindle store can only be read on the Kindle. So if you buy other ebook readers, it will not be able to read Kindle ebooks, which is not a good thing for many people because Amazon is selling a lot of ebooks and their ebooks are cheaper than actual books…
You can read here for more about the Kindle and Sony Reader, from a owner who had owned both:
I own the Kindle 2 and I like it very much. It is better than Sony Reader because Amazon provide good content support, and the number of books available in Kindle format is kept on increasing (right now there are over 350,000 Kindle books). Sony Reader, however, many users complain that it is difficult to find suitable books, and books on it are more expensive than the Kindle. Other benefits of the Kindle over Sony Reader include the free wireless internet access, and the text-to-speech function.
If you need to read PDF with charts and graphics, you may want to go for the Kindle DX (the Kindle 2 can read PDF files through conversion). Read this review and you should be able to decide which one to get:
I’m afraid that I need to give you some different opinion. There is no e reader that can read all books on any website. For Sony ebooks, it can only be read on Sony Reader. For Amazon ebooks, it can only be read on the Kindle. For Barnes and Nobles ebooks, it can only be read on the iRex… However, I can say the e reader to be universal already if it can read PDF files…
Among all the e readers, I’ll still choose the Kindle, because it has the best and cheapest book supply. It can read PDF files without problem.
You can read this review, it is the best review I’ve ever read:

A final tip. Here is a website where you can get over 20,000 free books and you can read them on the Kindle device:

Hope this helps.

I’ll still say the Kindle. Read here for an excellent review which also mentions Sony Reader and iRex:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR2V54YX2DD18S2%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Frdp%255Fperm&tag=querystr-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957
And choose a cover to protect your Kindle:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26redirect%3Dtrue%26ref%255F%3Dsr%255Fnr%255Fn%255F0%26bbn%3D1288331011%26qid%3D1254023573%26rnid%3D1288331011%26rh%3Dn%253A133140011%252Cn%253A%2521133141011%252Cn%253A370783011%252Cn%253A1288331011%252Cn%253A1288332011&tag=querystr-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957
For me, I’ll choose this cover as it gives excellent protection:

Hope this helps you decide.
