I need to make my iPad more secure on New Zealand networks (both WiFi and 3G) while travelling, banking as well as public and private use. What do I install and where can I get it?

Yes, there’s a government-grade software that you can install when you buy an iPad in Auckland. It’s called Hidepad, and you can get it online over here:

http://hidepad.annics.com

This app is quick to install but effective as it uses VPN security (a tried and tested security configuration on PCs) to encrypt your iPad’s internet connection.

It also supports anonymous browsing across New Zealand and automatically protects your Apple device from online hackers & malware.

By the way, I work in corporate security and have installed HidePad on all iPads connected to my enterprise network. I also have family members in Wellington and Auckland who use the same on their personal devices.

I signed into the iTunes account I use on my iPad and it says stuff like The iPad is synced with another iTunes library and wants to delete all of my apps and music.
Can I bypass this or something?
I have everything backed up on iCloud.

It depends. Do u have all your apps and music anywhere else? If not I suggest using a program called Touch copy 11. It will backup all apps and music or videos from your iPad. Below is a link to this software

I downloaded the cloud app on my IMac and it works great, I drag and drop a file into the cloud icon and it is automatically on my personal could page online. I can view these files from my iPad but there’s no way for me to put files on cloud from my iPad because I cannot download the cloud app for my iPad. Is there anyway that I can easily file share between my two devices?

You hook the iPad to your iMac. In iTunes, you click on your iPad and there is a checkbox for you to back up to iCloud. You need to have iOS 5 on your ipad.

http://www.kobobooks.com/touch
This model. I want to purchase an eReader that is completely restriction free in Canada (unlike with the Kindle that is also restricted to Amazon purchases). So, I came across this but have seen very mixed reviews… any personal experiences?

I have owned the black model for a mouth, it is good but not perfect. Sometime it will freeze and I have to hold the power switch for 10 seconds to restart it. I also own two kindles(kindle 4 and kindle DX), they also freeze occasionally. I figure this is the common problem for e-ink readers, especially when you try to open a very large book or PDF.
The old firmware that ships with the model has very limited functions. However, if you connect it to your computer and open kobo desktop, the firmware will automatically update. The current version of firmware(1.9.16) is much much better than the original one, some of the reviews online are based on the old firmware.
I have purchased several books from kobo’s online bookstore. The purchase were very easy with less restrictions. However, kobo store much less amount of books when compared to Amazon. Though they both have popular books, if you try to find something not so popular(e.g. textbook), you may find it on Amazon but not kobo. The good thing is you can always put your own book in kobo(in epub format) .Kobo touch also has a mini sd slot.

I have done quite a bit of research about the two and I have watched reviews. But i can not choose between the two. I know the nook is cheaper but i do not want to comprimise on quality. So in you opinion if you have experienced these, which one is better? Thanks this is gunna help a lot.

I got the Nook SimpleTouch for Christmas, and here’s my opinion of the ereader from my around seven days of use.

I chose Nook because of its reviews, ePub format, and physical look/feel. I had high expectations, but I’m disappointed.

1) The touchscreen has been inconsistent. One minute it barely even takes a tap, other times I nearly have to hit the screen to make it work.

2) I’ve experienced varying degrees of ghosting. At first there was SOME noticeable ghosting, but it’s gotten worse over the last day to where it’s a little distracting.

3) I’ve used it maybe 30 mins. to an hour everyday since I got it, minus one, and the battery is already down 20%. I’m not sure if this is normal, but it doesn’t seem like it.

I’m planning on taking it back within my fourteen day return period to either get a different one, or get a Kindle.

In the end, I AM glad that I got it so that I could experience the device for myself instead of going off what others have said.

Best of luck in your purchase!

Connect your iPad to your computer’s iTunes and copy any purchases to your computer’s iTunes via

File > Transfer Purchases.

You should also backup the device (right-click the iPad ‘device’ and select ‘back up’), and copy off any important documents, file, notes etc (e.g. by email, the file sharing section at the bottom of the Apps tab in iTunes, wifi, whatever the apps that you use support) – the update process should backup and restore the content but it’s best to be safe and try and minimise any data/content loss if the update doesn’t go smoothly.

I’d love to get my dad a tablet for Christmas, I just can’t decide which one. I’m willing to spend $200, and less if I can. (; I’m looking for one with maybe half the qualities of the amazing iPad, in a little over half the cost. He always tells me he’d love to read some books, so I was looking at the Kindle Fire, and the Nook Color, but they just both kind of got crappy reviews… He also likes play games, but he can of his phones screen because it’s too small and his hands are too large. Also with that tablet, or eReader, I’d like a side of nice Internet usage, please. (:

If you can tell me the price of the Tablet. Thanks.

Hi, Ken, no matter what Amazon employees post all over Yahoo Answers Nook Tablet (that is Nook Color 2) is the best on the market if you can find $50 more – I think it’s worth it as it’s a class above both Kindle Fire and Nook Color. Kindle Fire is neither a tablet (too underpowered and lacks features) nor eReader (LCD screen and poor battery life.) It is rather a $200 device for shopping on Amazon web site. If you believe almost 1000 people that left 1-2 star reviews on Amazon site for Kindle Fire and drop all 5-start reviews from Amazon employees and read middle ground 3-start reviews you’ll understand that it is a deeply flawed device. It is confirmed at this time that many Kindle Fire units have faulty Wi-Fi and people have a lot of issues connecting to internet according to many user reviews. Other issues are that it runs hot to touch, video playback is jerky, touch screen is not responsive and it takes 2-3 touches to register, power button placement is very poor and is prone to accidental power off, all the hype of Silk browser is a fake where the browsing is actually slower than on other Android tablets, etc.
Recently released Nook Tablet – it’s been getting rave reviews and it is the best device in it’s class – much better than Kindle Fire. It’s got Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, Angry Brids, etc., the best battery life, the best non-glare laminated screen, double the RAM and space for apps/photos/movies, microSD slot, a microphone for Skype, and physical volume controls on the side (neither of those is on Kindle Fire), very smooth video playback with excellent screen, and very fast apps load.
The Nook Tablet’s unique display has less reflectivity than the Kindle Fire’s, and so is easier to read. In addition, some fonts and videos render more sharply on it than on the Fire. The dual-core 1GHz Texas Instruments OMAP 4 CPU and 1GB of RAM made switching from app to app a breeze, with little lag or stuttering. Movies played smoothly and stutter-free in Netflix, and the high-definition images re-rendered for Nook’s 1024-by-600-pixel display looked lovely, with terrific contrast.
The Nook Tablet’s display was dazzling overall. The screen’s glare was minimal, thanks to what Barnes & Noble calls its VividView display. The IPS display is laminated and bonded; so unlike on other tablets’s displays–including the Kindle Fire’s–there’s no annoying, visible air gap between the glass screen and the LCD beneath. The Nook Tablet’s home screen is highly customizable and provides quick access to apps and reading material.
